Qibla direction
Choose your city to see the direction of the Kaaba in Makkah, measured clockwise from North. Open it on your phone and turn on the live compass to be pointed to the Qibla. اتجاه القبلة
Live compass: phones and tablets only.
How to use it on your phone
- Open this page on your phone.
- Pick your country and city, or tap Use my location.
- Tap Turn on live compass. On an iPhone, tap Allow when it asks to use motion and orientation.
- Hold the phone flat, screen facing up, away from metal objects. The dial turns as you turn, like a real compass.
- Turn your body until the green needle with the Kaaba points straight to the top of your phone. You are now facing the Qibla.
If the needle seems off, move the phone in a figure-of-eight a few times to calibrate its compass.
How the direction is worked out
The Qibla is the direction of the shortest path over the Earth’s surface, a great circle, from your city to the Kaaba at 21.4225° N, 39.8262° E. That is why, for example, the Qibla from North America points north-east rather than south-east.
