Gold rate today in the UAE
Today's gold rate per gram in dirhams, updated every day, and a calculator for the full price of a piece of jewellery with making charges and VAT.
How gold jewellery is priced in the UAE
A gold piece in a UAE shop is priced in three parts:
- Gold value: weight in grams × the day's rate for its karat.
- Making charge: the shop's fee for the work, either per gram or as a percentage. It is often negotiable, especially on plain designs.
- VAT: 5% on the whole price of jewellery, gold value and making charge together. Investment bars and coins of 99% purity or more are zero-rated.

Where today's rate comes from
The 24K rate is worked out each morning from the international spot price of gold, converted at the fixed rate of AED 3.6725 to the US dollar (one troy ounce is 31.1035 grams). The 22K, 21K and 18K rates follow the same ratios as the Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group rate boards. Shops set their board rates in the morning and update them during the day, so the rate in a shop can differ by a few dirhams. Always confirm the rate before you buy.
Questions people ask
Is VAT charged on gold in the UAE?
Yes. Jewellery carries 5% VAT on the full price. Investment gold of 99% purity or more, such as bars and coins, is zero-rated.
Why is 22K the most popular in the UAE?
22K is pure enough to keep a rich colour and hard enough for everyday wear, so it is the standard for traditional jewellery.
