How to write the amount on a UAE cheque
UAE banks accept the amount in words in English or Arabic. Write it on the line that starts "Dirhams" or "درهم", and the same amount in figures in the box.
- End the words with "Only" in English or wrap them in "فقط … لا غير" in Arabic, so nothing can be added after.
- Write fils as words ("and Fifty Fils") or as a fraction ("and 50/100"). Both are accepted.
- The words and the figures must match. If they differ, the bank can return the cheque.
- Start writing at the far left of the line and draw a line through any empty space after the words.
Arabic numbers with dirhams
Arabic changes the word for dirham with the number: one is "درهم واحد", two is "درهمان", three to ten use "دراهم", eleven to ninety-nine use "درهماً", and round hundreds and thousands use "درهم". The converter applies these rules for you, along with forms such as "ألفا درهم" for 2,000.
